Ate at Hans' about five times during eight days in Jaibalito. The food is unadorned good home cooking with quality local ingredients. Hans is long time immersed in indigenous community and his place and expat friends have little in common with gringolandia. You will leave with a valuable memory.

This place has its own soul! Go and enjoy the atmosphere, maybe you will be lucky and witness a funny discussion between Hans and expats living there.

My husband and I only had breakfast here. Their coffee is excellent, per my husband, and I liked that they have lots of homemade food (both local and German). They're definitely hand making their own pasta. The folks who work here are kind, patient, and all smiles! The dogs here are super cute. I would recommend stopping by on the Lower Mayan Trail for sure.

Visited for lunch and had a very pleasant meal mostly. The spatzle with goulash was delicious, but the falafel were disappointing (burnt and very small). The house made dark beer was delicious. Bought some fruit and coconut tart to take home but haven't tried it yet. They prices were a bunch higher than we saw on the reviews here so I'll add the latest menu snapshots.

Never in my life have I eaten at a place so strange…..! Our Airbnb host suggested we come by here. On our last morning in Jaibalito with no other options, we stopped by for breakfast. Upon entering through the side gate, it felt like we were intruding. With the zero greetings, it was doubly uncomfortable with the four or so older men staring us down while chain smoking cigarettes in the outdoor dining area. They continued to stare while we ate our breakfast while minding our own business. Almost felt like a hide out for men running away from something 😭 Frank Gallagher from Shameless type of characters. The women that work here are so pleasant and friendly, but the hotel guests(?) are seriously questionable. We were thankful we made it through breakfast and out the door without anything weird happening, but from three woman to other woman travelers, we don’t suggest coming here. I think this place works for a certain type of traveller but it was not for us. Food was just ok.

Club Ven Aca in Jaibalito is a lakeside pool venue accessible by boat with beautiful views and reasonably priced food and drinks, though visitors should note that the atmosphere can be marred by excessive alcohol service and inadequate management of guest behavior.
Bistro Indigo in Jaibalito offers Persian cuisine in a stunning lakeside setting with excellent breakfast options like shakshuka and a warm, dog-friendly atmosphere. While breakfast is consistently praised, dinner offerings sometimes disappoint on flavor, making this best suited for the morning meal with panoramic lake and volcano views.
Cafe El Escondido in Jaibalito is a hidden gem serving authentic Guatemalan cuisine with generous portions at remarkably low prices in a family-run setting. The rooftop terrace offers pleasant lake views and the staff are genuinely warm, making it an excellent value destination despite the tucked away location requiring local knowledge.
