Abeja Obrera in San Juan La Laguna blends a honey bee themed experience with restaurant service, featuring large portions and diverse menu options including wings and barbacoa. However, mixed reviews note overpriced specialty beer and inconsistent food quality relative to pricing and hype.

We ordered a bean soup, egg fajitas, pasta with tofu, and an orange-carrot juice. Everything was very good and tasted freshly made. We paid 131 QZ for the three dishes and the juice, which is excellent value for the quality. The place is small and cute, with a maximum of around seven tables. It feels very local -- there were locals eating there, which is always a good sign. It’s family run, and the waiter was super nice and welcoming. There is an English menu available. It’s a cozy spot, but keep in mind that food is prepared on the spot by just a couple of people, so it can take a bit of time. Don’t come starving, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. Payment is cash only.

Really delicious and filling vegan tempeh sandwich for under $4 USD ! I could tell the bread was super fresh. They substituted the mayo with guacamole for no extra charge. The tempeh is high quality too. It's a small restaurant next to a busy street, so definitely some car noise. Service is slow like most places in Lake Atitlan, but not egregiously so (prob ~30min wait for food if they are busy). Note that all their fettuccine dishes have egg in the pasta, so they are not vegan.

A solid place to have a cheap and tasty lunch. You can order from the main menu, but they’re most known for their “menu of the day.” Today they had chicken, beef (churrasco), and a vegetarian soup option. It was only 45 quetzales, so a very good price. I ordered the beef, and it came with a cucumber and tomato salad, guacamole, rice, and tortillas. The portions were generous for the price. I also requested the house salsa, which is a green salsa that was quite nice. The olive oil served with the salad was especially flavorful. My only complaint -- and it was a fairly significant one -- was that the churrasco was quite chewy. Lastly, the waiter was very friendly. He seemed to take his job seriously and genuinely wanted everyone to have a good experience. The food took a whil to come out, but that's to be expected in GUA.
