Unbelievable spot to enjoy the lake... Santiago de atitlan is really worth but needs a little anticipation... it needs several hours of driving from the capital. Wheelchair acess is tricky (The slopes are steep. The slopes are steep.) BUT it can be done with a little help ! If you plan to visit the best is to drive from Guatemala city through Antigua (the former capital). Carefull with the weather... if wet avoid visiting in wheelchair, if dry it should not be a problem with some help or an electric assistance :-)

I came here a few years ago on recommendation from a local guide and had their steamed mojarra. It was a divine experience, and since then I’ve been on the hunt for the best steamed mojarra throughout Latin America. I recently returned to see how it holds up after a few years and a lot more comparison. First of all, it’s 98 quetzales for a one-pound fish -- and the fish they serve is absolutely huge. It’s generously stuffed with onions and bell peppers. In Guatemala, I’ve seen this dish range anywhere from 80 to 150 quetzales, and this is by far the largest portion I’ve had at a very fair price. But the portion size isn’t even the best part -- the quality of the fish is on a different level. You can really taste the freshness, especially when eating the head and the fattier, richer parts. It’s noticeably fresher than most other mojarras I’ve had. I actually asked what makes it different, and they told me that in Santiago they’re still able to fish some directly from the lake. Most other places import theirs from the capital, which likely explains the difference in freshness. They also served complimentary chips and guacamole. And I’m not exaggerating -- these might be the best chips I’ve ever had in my life. I don’t know if they’re fried in pork lard or what, but they were incredible. Service is solid, prices are fantastic, and the portions are generous. Part of the value comes from the fact that this isn’t a very touristy area. It’s one of the least touristy spots around the lake, and it can be a bit harder to reach -- so make sure you’re aware of the last lancha departure time.

We came here with our tour guide for lunch. It was pretty scrumptious, we got the Tamarindo drinks which were amazing. I got a bbq chicken dish which was scrumptious. The sauce was so good. My mom got the pulique dish which she loved. The fresh tortillas were amazing.
