Staying at El Picnic is truly an unique & unforgettable experience. Located in one of the quietest areas of Lake Atitlan (Tzununa), it is where you go to truly unwind. I stayed 2 nights here. Staff: The Owners Gabi & Joachim are absolutely the most wonderful hosts you’ll meet. Warm, genuine, honest individuals who have built this 4 room accommodation out of their Love & Passion (architect & civil engineer). They live on property and are there to serve guests and make sure you have the optimal experience. Food: A hearty delicious breakfast is included. Dinner is optional (with additional charge), which I highly recommend. Not many restaurants will be open in the area and also, most guests staying on property also opt for Dinner, so its a cozy vibe while meeting other travelers. They have a full bar and make great cocktails including an “Old fashioned Rum” Rooms: Considered Glamping, but in a luxurious TreeHouse setting. Comfortable bed with a view of the stars at night. It’s all partially opened but there is enough blanket at night and fresh air. Location: Tzununa is a very quiet, local area, not affected by mass tourism. There are about a dozen other boutique hotels (mainly Yoga related stays). This is good for those wanting to partake in the Yoga & Spiritual scene. Activities: Yoga, Rent a Kayak in the morning, Breakfast, go for a Hike, Massage, Swim, visit neighboring Laketowns via Watertaxi (10 minutes between each).. come back for Dinner & enjoy a nice quiet rest in Nature. Possible Con: -No nightlife after 6pm (which can be a Pro if you just want to relax) -As mentioned in other reviews, you’ll have to climb many steps to reach your room. As long as you’re ok with that, its so well worth staying here! I cant wait to return again!

This is an amazing place, no need to look any further. The (glamping) rooms are fantastic, and wherever you are on the property , you can enjoy breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding volcanoes. Gaby and Jochem are incredibly warm and welcoming hosts. Both breakfast and dinner are excellent. The village of Tzununa is peaceful and an ideal base for exploring the Lake Atitlán area. We enjoyed our stay immensely and highly recommend this place.

If there was an option for 10 stars I’d give it that. The best accommodation we’ve ever stayed at. The location and view from the rooms are like nothing you’ll get anywhere else! The owners Gaby and Johan are lovely people and very accommodating plus their cute trio of German Shepards add to the atmosphere of the place. Breakfast included was everything you need to set you up for the day. Would also recommend eating at accommodation as they have a rotating menu that is amazing with a wide variety of local beer and German beer. We will definitely be returning one day.

Picnic is a true gem at Lake Atitlan. If you are looking for top notch views and an experience with both nature and luxury, please don’t hesitate to book a room here. We wanted to start off by thanking the lovely owners Gabby and Jochen, who went above and beyond to take care of us for the 4 nights we stayed there. They were so patient and helpful with all our questions and requests and helped us with building our itinerary. The breakfast and dinner was also amazing every single day (the meals were varied every day), which meant we didn’t have to worry about sourcing dinner at night as the last boat back to Tzunana (where Picnic is located) from San Juan/San Pedro is at 5:30pm. All the cabins are so adorable and unique, and the views are truly unbeatable. This was the most special and memorable stay of our trip and is an experience we’ll never forget. Some travel tips for Picnic: When you arrive Panjachel, all boats going anti-clockwise direction will stop at Tzunana, where Picnic is located (I think it’s 3 stops). Just tell the boat staff at the dock that you are heading to Tzunana and they will put you on the right boat. The boats run approx every 20 mins and costs Q25 per person. Once you get off the boat at Tzunana, there is a tuk tuk station. If you have luggage, we suggest taking a tuk tuk to the hotel, otherwise it’s around a 15 min walk. Please check tuk tuk prices with Gabby in advance so they don’t overcharge you. There are quite a few stairs to get up to the rooms (which gets you to the best views), so we suggest not having very big or heavy luggages. The cabins can get quite bright/sunny early on, so it you are affected by light we suggest bringing an eye mask. There might also be roosters howling early morning or dogs barking, so if you are sensitive to sound we suggest bringing earplugs. The hotel provides mosquito repellent.

It’s an amazing place in a small and quiet town. We were glad we didn’t stay in Panajachel, San Pedro or San Juan. We stayed in an open hut with great views. The host, Gaby and Jochem, are great hosts. They offer a lot of info and they can arrange almost everything for you. And the food they serve is great as well.
